The Fatezh Local History Museum was founded on December 23, 1991. The foundation of its exhibition consists of materials collected by P. I. Zolotukhina, the head of the 'Scout' club. The museum is located in an ancient building that previously belonged to the merchant estate of the city mayor I. K. Assoryev.

Today, the museum's collections contain over 2,000 exhibits, and its exhibition area is 120 square meters. The museum's exhibition covers the history of the Fatezh land from the late 18th century to the present day.

Particular attention is given to the life and work of Professor of Medicine V. F. Voyno-Yasenetsky, known as Saint Luke. Materials are also presented about one of the first women's progymnasiums in the Kursk region, named after Emperor Alexander II.

The Fatezh land is associated with the names of such notable figures as writer I. S. Turgenev, poets F. T. Tyutchev, Y. P. Polonsky, P. Y. Chaadaev, and I. Severyanin, State Duma member V. M. Purishkevich, revolutionary F. A. Sergeev (Artem), scholars A. A. Baikov and K. D. Kraevich, historian N. N. Bantysh-Kamensky, Decembrists N. F. Zaikin and A. E. Mozalevsky, composer G. V. Sviridov, and others.
