In the southwestern part of the regular park in Kuskovo stands the Hermitage pavilion, whose name comes from the French word "ermitage," meaning "hermit's hut." In the 18th century, like other park pavilions, the Hermitage was used for receiving guests. Its name emphasized the purpose of the place for entertainment and leisure in a close circle of the chosen society. The original design of the pavilion allowed for seclusion on the second floor without the help of servants. At that time, such "hermitages" were very popular. It was built in 1765-1767 under the guidance of the famous Moscow architect Karl Ivanovich Blank. A feature of the building is the combination of several styles: smooth, rounded shapes of the facades are combined with a classical order system, complemented by baroque elements, such as alabaster busts of Roman Caesars in niches under the cornice.

Over time and under the influence of historical events, the interior decoration of the pavilion, including carvings, wall panels, and mirrors, was almost completely lost. Only the patterned parquet in the round cabinets and fragments of the ceiling painting on the second floor in the baroque style have survived to this day.

The museum, together with leading specialists in restoration, has carried out significant work to create a restoration project for the Hermitage, which has been successfully implemented.

At the end of 2013, the Hermitage pavilion was ceremoniously opened to visitors. Museum staff are confident that it will become one of the most popular pavilions among estate guests, and exhibitions will be regularly held in its restored halls.

The restoration of the Hermitage was made possible thanks to the support of the Department of Culture of Moscow and the efforts of specialists from the Central Scientific Restoration Project Workshops under the guidance of the chief architect of the project, T.P. Nikitina. The architecture and sculpture of the facades were restored, and the parquet and staircase were renovated. The ceilings of the cabinets and their surrounding round oak frames were revived by specialists from the Interregional Scientific Restoration Art Management. Under the guidance of the highly qualified restorer M.G. Chistyakov, the painted arch around the lost central ceiling was restored.

At the "Moscow Restoration, 2013" competition organized by the Department of Cultural Heritage of Moscow, the Hermitage pavilion received an award for the high quality of repair and restoration work.
