Since its founding in 1912, this building has always housed educational institutions such as schools and gymnasiums. The alley where it is located has changed its name three times: it was originally called Chichenovsky, then became Bolshoy Kazenny, and during the Soviet era (in 1957 and 1994) it was named after Arkady Gaidar. Later, the alley was renamed Bolshoy Kazenny in memory of the craftsmen of the Kazenny sloboda of the 16th-17th centuries.

House No. 9 was built by architect I.I. Rerberg in 1912 specifically for the Elizabethan Gymnasium, which was considered one of the best in Moscow. The laying of the first stone took place on September 14, 1911, on a plot owned by Lazareva, and the consecration of the building occurred on November 4, 1912.

The four-story gymnasium building in neoclassical style with an elegant facade and white-columned portico included a kitchen, dining room, storerooms, apartments for administration and staff, a chapel of Righteous Elizabeth, and a ballroom. The gymnasium also had a boarding house for 70 students.

The history of the Elizabethan Gymnasium begins in 1880 when a home for children of those who died in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 was established. Based on it, a gymnasium was created in 1884, which was located for a long time at Maroseyka, 11. In 1897, the educational institution was named after its patroness, Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna Romanova, sister of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna.

After the October Revolution, the gymnasium continued its work in Bolshoy Kazenny Alley. During the Battle of Moscow in 1941, military volunteer units were formed based on the school, and a tank IS-2 was built from the collected funds.

Over the years, this educational institution has been known as School of the 2nd Stage No. 34 of the Basmanny District, School of Factory and Plant Training No. 30 of the Basmanny Department of Public Education, and again as a gymnasium. In 1936, it was assigned the number 330. In the 2010s, it became part of School No. 2095 'Pokrovsky Quarter' as a structural unit No. 330 'Elizabethan Gymnasium'.

The gymnasium has a museum that tells the history of the house. Among its alumni are notable figures such as academicians L.V. Keldysh and V.P. Sokolov, Lenin Prize laureate M.Ya. Marov, writer and Hero of the Soviet Union N.S. Nikolsky, honored artist V.Ya. Levental, violinist I.D. Oistrakh, poet L.I. Oshanin, people's artists V.N. Glagoleva and V.P. Maretzkaya, actress M. Korius, Olympic champions I. Buldakova and O. Stepanov, chief director E.Yu. Zavadskiy, film director V.M. Georgiev, and many others.
