The Old Believer women's monastery of the Belokrinitsky agreement was founded in 1857 in the village of Yelesino, located 20 versts from Nizhny Novgorod, now a village in the Bor district of the Nizhny Novgorod region. It was established by nun Margarita, who became the first abbess. She and two nuns settled near the local church, and soon others began to join them. By 1870, a two-story house for the skete was built.

After the death of Mother Margarita, the abbess until 1884 was nun Dosifea, and then nun Anfisa. In the early 20th century, more than 40 residents lived in the monastery. A school of Znamenny singing operated here, and a women's choir was organized. The monastery was renowned for its strict adherence to the rule and the ascetic life of the sisters. In 1905, a new three-story building with 24 cells was constructed for the sisters.

In the 1930s, the remaining nuns were arrested and exiled to Kazakhstan. After rehabilitation in 1953, five nuns returned to Yelesino. The last abbess was nun schemamonk Agnia.

Today, all monastery buildings are destroyed. On June 3, 2007, a cross was erected in the village of Yelesino in the Nizhny Novgorod region in memory of the former church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin and the skete.
