This house has adorned Tverskaya Street for almost 230 years. Built in the 18th century by Matvey Kazakov, it is a monument of architecture. The house was constructed between 1787 and 1790 for Ekaterina Ivanovna Kozytskaya, the youngest daughter of the wealthy Siberian industrialist I.S. Myasnikov, who left her two factories and 19,000 serfs. The construction of the house is often attributed to her husband, Grigory Kozytsky, a state secretary of Catherine II, who committed suicide in 1775.

Before Kozytskaya, the plot belonged to the Vyazemsky princes, from whom she purchased it in 1786. Matvey Kazakov built a magnificent palace for her in the classical style at the corner of Tverskaya and the alley named after the first owner. The three-story house with an eight-column portico and the Kozytsky coat of arms on the pediment has survived to this day. It endured the fire of 1812.

In 1824, the house became the center of Moscow's social and literary life. Zinaida Volkonskaya, Kozytskaya's stepdaughter, settled here and hosted literary evenings attended by Pushkin, Zhukovsky, and other notable figures. After her departure to Rome in 1829, the house remained obscure for a long time.

In the mid-1860s, the building belonged to Princess Kochubey and was used as a boarding house. In 1874, architect August Weber remodeled the house for the new owner, millionaire S.M. Malkiel. The facade was altered, and the house acquired eclectic decor.

In 1898, the house was purchased by St. Petersburg merchant Grigory Eliseev. Under his guidance, the building was remodeled to accommodate a store. The interiors were designed by architect G.V. Baranovsky. The store became known as "Eliseev's Store and Cellar of Russian and Foreign Wines."

The house remained in the Eliseev family until 1917, after which it housed Gastronom No. 1, which continued to be called "Eliseevsky." In 2003, the building was restored and transformed into a self-service store "Scarlet Sails."

In 2021, "Eliseevsky" closed as a contract could not be signed with a new operator due to unclear property status. The Moscow government plans to keep the store in municipal ownership, although the protective status of the building limits its use.
