In the Yaroslavl region, rich in ancient landmarks, lies the village of Krasny Profintern, where the pre-revolutionary eclectic castle of the Ponizovkin family has been preserved, built in the early 20th century. The owner of this mansion was entrepreneur Nikita Andreevich Ponizovkin, a representative of the wealthy Yaroslavl merchants. He inherited a starch factory and, after marrying the Austrian Rose Pavlovna Bursian, decided to build a new family home in the form of a castle in the fashionable eclectic style.

Construction of the house began soon after their wedding and progressed quite quickly, finishing in 1910. The project was developed and overseen by the famous Russian engineer-architect Nikolai Yurievich Lermontov, a relative of the poet Mikhail Yurievich Lermontov. The Ponizovkin mansion became one of the most beautiful in the region. However, Nikita Andreevich's family life soon ended unsuccessfully: the spouses began to quarrel and divorced. The dream of a family nest was not realized, and the house was confiscated after the Bolsheviks came to power in 1917.

The further fate of Nikita Andreevich Ponizovkin is unknown, and his mansion fell into disrepair over the decades: the interior decor was lost, and the exterior became so dilapidated that it was hard to recognize its former luxury. Only in our time has the mansion been restored and once again impresses with its beauty.
