In modern Nakhichivan district of Rostov-on-Don, there is a building of Lyceum No. 13, constructed in 1892 for Catherine's Women's Gymnasium. The building was designed by the famous Rostov architect Nikolai Nikitich Durbakh. In 1894, a chapel was opened at the gymnasium where students could take communion.

Catherine's Women's Gymnasium was considered one of the most prestigious educational institutions in the city. It taught Religious Studies, Russian and French languages, geography, history, and other subjects. Initially, the education lasted 8 years, but in 1910 it was extended to 9 years. Among the notable alumni were academician Militsa Nechkina and writer Marietta Shaginyan.

With the arrival of Soviet power, the gymnasium and the church were closed. In 1921, the building opened as the First Soviet Labor School named after Markov, which resembled a labor camp for minors. In the 1930s, the school was renamed after Karl Marx. In 1943 and 1944, a hospital was located here, and until 1947, military institutions were housed in the building. For several decades, the building served as a shelter for the homeless. Today, it has been restored and is protected by the state, housing Lyceum No. 13.
