The marine Arctic port of federal significance, located on the route of the Northern Sea Route, is situated on the right bank of the Yenisei River at the mouth of the Dudinka River in the Krasnoyarsk Krai. It is the only marine port in the world whose docks are flooded during the spring flood. It operates as both a sea and river port simultaneously and received international status in 2012.

Construction of the port began in 1935 to support the Norilsk mining and metallurgical complex. By 1936, 40 linear meters of the pier were built, along with an intra-port railway, docks, and storage sheds for cargo. That same year, over 50,000 tons of cargo were manually unloaded. By 1938, a developed network of railway tracks spanning 37 km was established in the port. In 1939, a coal dock was built, and the port fleet included 6 boats, tugboats, and two barges. Since 1978, the Dudinka port has operated year-round.
