The church of Saint Martyr Tatiana, an Orthodox church with the status of a Patriarchal courtyard, is the chapel of Lomonosov Moscow State University. It is located in the right wing of a city estate from the late 18th century, which belonged to the Pashkov family. In the first half of the 19th century, Moscow University acquired this estate. During the fire of 1812, the church burned down along with the main university buildings, and until 1837, the upper church of the neighboring St. George's Church on Krasnaya Gorka served as the chapel. The Tatiana Church, like the university buildings, was rebuilt by architect E.D. Tyurin and consecrated by Metropolitan Filaret of Moscow on September 12, 1837.

The chapel differed from parish churches only legally: it belonged either to a private individual or an institution, and there was no parish in the conventional sense. Only consistory officials knew the exact number of such churches in Moscow before the revolution. This data was needed by the Bolsheviks for organizing liquidation activities. Household churches, which were not highlighted in a separate chapter of the history of Moscow churches, were among the main attractions of the capital. During the Bolshevik regime, this group of churches was destined for a special fate: the fight against religion in the country began with them.

In July 1919, the church was closed, and the interior was dismantled. A reading room for the law faculty was arranged here, and on the pediment, instead of the inscription "The Light of Christ Enlightens All," the slogan "Science, for the Workers" appeared, which was later removed as well. In 1922, on the fifth anniversary of the October Revolution, a club was opened in the church, and on May 6, 1958, the Student Theater of Moscow State University began operating in the building.

Until 1991, the church was used for purposes other than its intended use, but for the first time after a long break, a service was held here for Saint Tatiana by His Holiness Patriarch Alexy. In 1992, in the presence of Rector V.A. Sadovnichy and Moscow Mayor Y.M. Luzhkov, His Holiness the Patriarch expressed a desire to revive the university chapel. The initiative was supported by the academic council of MSU, and restoration began on the inscription and cross on the pediment of the church, the choir and central entrance to the upper church, frescoes, and stucco.

On March 7, 2004, Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia performed the rite of great consecration of the chapel of Martyr Tatiana at Lomonosov Moscow State University.
