The building of the Nikolayev Children's Home, which also houses the house church of Paul the Confessor, was constructed before 1880 and is a cultural heritage site of regional significance. The building's design was developed by architect S.I. Karyagin.

The Nikolayev Home opened on August 22, 1847, exactly one year after the Alexandrinsky Home. Initially, it was located in the house of the guardian, Collegiate Councillor Stepan Shaverda. In 1880, Astrakhan merchants Luka Makarov and Pavel Chuchin, cousins engaged in fishing, a steamboat company, and timber trade, donated a stone two-story house with outbuildings and land valued at 16,000 rubles to the home. Currently, the Nikolayev Children's Home houses a children's library.
