The Mary Magdalene Church, located at the Ivanov Charity House, was built in 1899 at the intersection of Troitskaya, Kobozev, and Engineer streets, Volodarsky.

On October 10, 1899, the church dedicated to the holy equal-to-the-apostles Mary Magdalene was consecrated at the charity house founded by the well-known philanthropists from Orenburg, Sergey and Maria Ivanov. The church was constructed with funds left by the merchant widow Maria Lvovna Ivanova. The stone building with an iron roof was situated in the center of the charitable institution. Above the church rose a five-domed bell tower, which was taller than both the charity house and the church itself. The bells on it weighed 150 poods, with the largest reaching 109 poods. The bell tower was surrounded by a grille, and its domes were adorned with golden stars.

The interior decoration of the church included sacred images and gold ornaments in a strict Byzantine style, created by the same artists who worked on the Orenburg Cathedral. The iconostasis was designed in the Rococo style with a rich golden background. Initially, the church was equipped with utensils funded by the testatrix, with all items made to special order: two silver crosses, one silver Gospel, and vessels with enamel decorations. The church staff consisted of one priest and one deacon, who were provided with housing and a salary on the condition of free teaching at a second-class women's teacher's school and at a model single-class school associated with it.
