The house church in honor of the martyr Alexandra was opened at the Alexandrine Institute for Noble Maidens in 1843. This date is mentioned by P. Vereshchagin in his "Historical Essay on the Tambov Alexandrine Institute for Noble Maidens." The "Historical and Statistical Description of the Tambov Diocese for 1911" states that the church was built in 1844 by the nobility of the Tambov province. This stone, warm, single-altar building is dedicated to the martyr queen Alexandra, and its consecration took place on August 6, 1843, during the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. Although the memory of the holy martyr queen Alexandra is celebrated on April 21, the church holiday of the institute was moved to April 23, the day of the memory of Saint George the Great Martyr. The establishment of the institute church became possible thanks to the founder and church elder I.G. Gerasimov, who was also the builder of the institute building. The church was located on the upper floor of the building, constructed according to the design of court architect A.P. Bryullov. Today, this is the educational building of the G.R. Derzhavin Tambov State University. The funding for the construction of the church was provided by I. Gerasimov, who also built the first stone buildings in Tambov.
