Next to Lefortovsky Park is Hospital Street, where in the early 18th century, by order of Peter I, the "Military Hospital" was founded, influencing the further development of this area. In the 19th century, private charitable organizations were added to state institutions, and "Widows' Houses" appeared opposite the hospital.

In 1861, Princess N.V. Trubetskaya founded the Moscow Brotherhood Society, which for over 50 years provided housing for poor Muscovites. Depending on the situation, rental assistance could be obtained. Houses with cheap apartments were built throughout the city, from the center to the outskirts. Some buildings were named after members of the society. Thus, in 1902, architect I.P. Mashkov built two houses of free apartments for widows and orphans on Hospital Street, named after M.L. and T.A. Korolev and R.R. MacGill.

The long two-story house at number 6 is designed in the neo-Russian style, characteristic of I.P. Mashkov. He also designed the wing of the Polytechnic Museum and the building of the Cherkassy almshouse. The facade of the house is adorned with window frames, as well as a portal with columns and kokoshniks. The second house at number 10 is executed in the same style but more modestly.

The "Widows' Houses" received honorary names. The first, in honor of Mikhail and Tatiana Korolev, known for their donations. The funds for the construction of the house on Hospital Street were provided by their daughter Natalia Mikhailovna Andreeva. The second name, in honor of Robert MacGill, a factory owner in Moscow. His widow, Jane MacGill, built the house in memory of her husband. She also financed the construction of the pastor's house at the Anglican church and a boarding house for governesses.

In 1913, the ensemble of the society's houses was supplemented by the house named after A.D. and G.D. Shelaputins, built according to the project of I.E. Bondarenko. After the revolution, the society was liquidated, and the buildings became ordinary residential houses. Today, they house government institutions and offices.
