Residential House of the Tolmachev Merchants

Фото 1
The Tolmachev merchant family played an important role in the life of Tambov, starting from the 18th century. In the mid-19th century, brothers Alexander Fyodorovich and Stepan Fyodorovich Tolmachev were engaged in baking bread and confectionery. The estate belonging to them is located at the modern address: Kommunalnaya, 13. Their former shop still sells confectionery, while the residential house is situated to the right of the shop. The building has two floors and a U-shaped form, with a one-story section between the courtyard wings, making the plan square.

The main facade of the building consists of ten light axes and is not symmetrical. Horizontally, the facade is divided by a stepped cornice, and above the window openings of the second floor, except for the central part, there is a shelf-like band. The pilasters on the first floor are smooth, while those on the second are decorated with straps that separate the base and capital, featuring a vertically oriented rectangular niche. The central part of the facade, consisting of three light axes, is highlighted by decorative elements and rises above the rest of the building.

At the level of the first floor, the facade is pierced by two symmetrically located door openings. The windows of the second floor are rectangular with an arched finish, adorned with a keystone and an arched lintel. The central part of the facade is crowned with a baroque-style attic.

In the courtyard of the house, historical two-story wings have been preserved.
