The I. E. Vyalov House, an architectural monument, is located in the historical center of Nizhny Novgorod. It was built between 1840 and 1842 according to the design of architect A. L. Leer.

This is one of the last significant buildings in Nizhny Novgorod executed in the style of Russian classicism. After the approval of the new general development plan for the city in 1839 and the final determination of the red lines of Rozhdestvenskaya Street, merchant Ivan Egorovich Vyalov acquired a large plot of estate land.

In 1837, while serving as a deputy from the merchant class, Vyalov was sent by military governor M. P. Buturlin to Kostroma province to hire suppliers of lime, but he refused to go. This was seen as insolence, for which he was to be prosecuted, and persecution began. At the same time, M. P. Buturlin initiated unfounded legal proceedings against architect A. L. Leer. Likely due to this persecution, Vyalov and Leer became close.

In 1840, A. L. Leer designed a three-story stone house with basements for Vyalov on Rozhdestvenskaya Street. The facade of the building was adorned with eight Ionic pilasters that encompassed the upper floors and were placed on a slightly protruding risalite. The first floor was decorated with horizontal boarded rustication.

This house became one of the last major residential buildings in the city, executed in the fading style of classicism, with a facade based on the order system.
