The House of Diligence is located near Arkhangelsky Drive, across Oblupskaya Street (now Kutuzovskaya) in Sorokinsky Drive. It was founded by the "Kaluga Women's Charitable Society," which appeared in 1841.

Almost immediately after its founding, the society acquired a stone two-story house to accommodate orphans and children from poor families. Initially, there were 15 orphan girls living there. In 1855, another house was purchased, which already housed 53 girls. Over 50 years of operation, the society assisted 2,190 orphans and children from the poorest segments of the population. In 1903, a school and the Church of St. Vladimir the Equal-to-the-Apostles were opened at the house.

The girls were taught white sewing and clothing tailoring; in the laundry, the students washed, cleaned, and ironed linen and clothes. Over 50 years, the society raised 242,000 rubles, of which 211,000 were spent, including 157,000 for the maintenance of the House of Diligence. In 1910, there were 50 girls in the house, and the budget was 10,486 rubles.

To this day, the House of Diligence in Kaluga has partially survived. It now houses the "Kaluga State Institute of Modernization of Education."
