The Tevyashov residential house is one of the most beautiful buildings in Ostrogozhsk. The Tevyashov family was one of the most well-known in the city since its founding and was among the Cossack founders from Cherkasy who arrived from Ukraine. It is said that the last of the Tevyashov atamans, upon leaving his position, took a large plot of land with him and became one of the wealthiest people in the district. Kondratiy Ryleev was married to the daughter of one of the Tevyashovs. Today, the main administrative buildings of the city are located in this house.

This is the first brick civil building in Ostrogozhsk. The exact date of its construction is unknown, but literature mentions the dates of the consecration of the house churches in the Tevyashov house: 1750 and 1783. On the city plans of 1779 and 1786, the house is marked as an existing stone structure. Despite being remodeled and expanded several times in the 19th century, its overall plan, resembling the letter H, has hardly changed.

The Tevyashov estate, established in the early years of the city's existence, began at the fortress and stretched far north, extending beyond the city limits and encompassing the territory of the current city garden. In the "Chronicle of Ostrogozhsk," D.Ya. Sklobovsky writes that this territory belonged to the Ostrogozhsk colonels from the founding of the city until the end of Catherine II's reign, after which it passed into the private ownership of the Tevyashovs, many of whom led the city as colonels, voivodes, and leaders of the nobility.

The two-story brick house was built in the southern part of the estate, opposite the Divnogorsk Monastery courtyard, parallel to one of the streets that define the block. In 1792, the building was purchased by the city, and after reconstruction, it housed administrative offices. Since 1867, in addition to the city duma and administration, the district court was located in the building. In 1879, the city administration left this house, and in 1888 it was extensively remodeled for the needs of the court. For over 200 years, the former Tevyashov residential house has been the center of city and district authority in Ostrogozhsk.

Today, this two-story brick building within the block has a complex configuration formed by numerous reconstructions. Arches from the 18th century were used to cover most of the first-floor rooms and part of the second. The central part of the building, elongated along the north-south axis and elevated by a two-light hall on the second floor, is flanked by side wings that protrude on the northern and southern facades. In the middle part of the western wing, there is a light well with an arched entrance. The eastern wing used to face a small street-square leading to the Divnogorsk Monastery courtyard. The architecture of the building's facades features elements characteristic of classicism: under-cornice friezes, wide banded rustication of the walls, and window openings with arched lintels. All of this makes the former Tevyashov house a unique monument of history and architecture in the Voronezh region.

In a note from the Voronezh governor E. Shcherbinin to Catherine II about Ostrogozhsk, it was noted that this city is the best of the newly created ones in the Voronezh province, as it has many churches, monasteries, and stone and wooden buildings. According to the 1785 inventory, there were 1,628 noble and common houses in the city, 4 stone storage tents, 4 stone shops, 89 wooden shops, 85 grain barns, 7 wooden almshouses, and 7 parish churches, of which 6 were stone and one was wooden.
