One of the most notable and beautiful pre-revolutionary buildings on Novaya Basmannaya is the house of Nikolai Dmitrievich Stakheev, an honorary citizen of Moscow and commerce advisor. The mansion was built in the second half of the 18th century. Nikolai Dmitrievich, a known patron and successful entrepreneur, owner of manufactories and a bakery business, decided to reconstruct the old estate to his taste. He acquired this land along with other noble estates and renovated them.

Construction of the mansion on Novaya Basmannaya began in the late 1890s and was completed in 1898. Stakheev spared no expense and invited the renowned architect Mikhail Fyodorovich Bugrovsky, which allowed for the creation of a magnificent building. Most of the facades are executed in the neo-Greek style, referencing the architecture of ancient Greece. The interior decoration of the house is an example of eclecticism, combining many architectural styles. Each hall is uniquely designed, and the house has suffered little damage, allowing it to be seen in its original form.

After the revolution, the mansion was confiscated from the heirs, and part of the painting collection was lost. However, the building was not turned into communal apartments but was handed over to the People's Commissariat of Transport. Later, it housed children's clubs and studios, where famous personalities such as Oleg Dahl and Valentina Tolkunova began their careers. The house was also used for film shoots and can be seen in some Soviet and Russian films. Currently, a television show called 'The Battle of Psychics' is filmed here. In front of the building stands a pre-revolutionary cast-iron fountain, which is an important relic of the Stakheev mansion.
