The first mention of the building appears in a deed from 1775, which states that Lieutenant A.A. Dokhturov sold a plot with a stone structure to the widow of Major P.A. Kropotova, "built in ancient years." Researchers have determined that this refers to the late 17th century, when the chambers were erected as the main house of an urban estate. However, until recently, only some minor details reminded of the house's age. In the 18th century, the chambers were significantly remodeled: an upper floor was added, as well as the composition and decor of the facades that have survived to this day. In the late 18th century, a two-story stone volume was added to the eastern side, and the main house of the estate took on the shape of the letter "G."

The building survived the fire of 1812, but after Napoleon's expulsion, the facades had to be repaired. In the early 1820s, under owner A.P. Makeev, part of the living quarters was rented out. In 1852, the estate was purchased by merchant I.E. Skvortsov, who established an inn known as the Orlovskoye Podvorie. In the late 19th century, the second floor of the building was remodeled, acquiring a layout typical of inexpensive hotels of that time, and the facades also underwent changes. In 1904, the heirs of V.I. and M.I. Skvortsov invited architect I. Blagoveshchensky to construct a tenement house on the red line of Bolshaya Ordynka. The five-story rental building overshadowed the ancient mansion.

Today, building No. 7, structure 2 is considered one of the most valuable on Bolshaya Ordynka. Despite numerous renovations, the facades have preserved the composition and decor of the mid-18th century, slightly altered in subsequent years. Ancient vaulted ceilings have survived in the basement and on the first floor, while the second floor retains the layout and elements of 19th-century hotel interiors. Recently, restoration work was carried out, during which specialists restored the window frames with "ears," large multi-faceted rustication, and asymmetrical rusticated pilasters at the junctions of the interior walls.
