The Craft House is a conditional name for convenience in communication. The full official name is the Department of Craft Development of the Center for National Cultures and Folk Art of the Republic of Karelia, which operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of Karelia.

The history of the Department of Craft Development began in 1992. It is symbolic that it is located in a 19th-century building, an ornate residential house with three windows and a mezzanine. The interior space of the building has been restored as closely as possible to its original layout.

The artisans collaborating with the Craft House are highly qualified specialists, many of whom are members of the Guild of Masters of the Republic of Karelia. On the first floor of the historic building, there is an exhibition hall, a souvenir shop, and a space for rehearsals of creative groups. The second floor houses a room for conducting master classes.
