"N.V. Gogol's House, Memorial Museum and Scientific Library" is a truly unique institution located in a historic building of an ancient city estate from the 18th-19th centuries in the center of Moscow at Nikitsky Boulevard, 7A. This place preserves the memory of many significant events in Russian history, the change of eras, and the revival of traditions. Throughout its existence, this architectural and cultural monument has been rebuilt multiple times and changed owners. However, its most famous resident was and remains N.V. Gogol. Visiting his friends, Count Alexander Petrovich Tolstoy and his wife Anna Georgievna, Nikolai Vasilievich spent the last years of his life here. He worked on the second volume of "Dead Souls," spiritual prose, prepared a collection of his works for publication, and shortly before his death burned part of his manuscripts.

Today, this house houses the only memorial museum of the great writer in Russia. The first exhibition dedicated to his stay here, "The Memorial Rooms of N.V. Gogol," was opened in 1974 as part of the City Library No. 2. In 2009, for the 200th anniversary of Gogol's birth, a new exhibition was presented. Six halls, the Hallway, Living Room, Study, "Inspector General" Room, Memory Room, and Embodiments Hall, are united by the theme "Gogol, the Mystery of the Third Millennium. The Life and Creative Path of the Writer."

The interiors of the rooms where Gogol lived have been recreated with documentary accuracy based on the memories of his contemporaries. The exhibition conveys the atmosphere of the mid-19th century: the crackling of firewood in the fireplace and the noise of Nikitsky Boulevard with voices, sounds of carriages, and bells can be heard.

In each hall, a main object is highlighted, reflecting the atmosphere and cultural style of the time, as well as the connection to the writer's personality. In the Memory Room, there is an authorial copy of Gogol's posthumous mask made by sculptor N.A. Ramazanov. Here, one can also see a bone case for needles, gifted to the writer by his mother; an inkwell from the estate of Kybintsy, where Gogol lived in his childhood; a glass with rocaille ornament, a wedding gift to his sister Elizabeth; and a sofa from the house of historian M.P. Pogodin, where Gogol often stayed.

The staff of Gogol's House conducts tours for schoolchildren, students, and anyone interested in the life and work of the writer. The museum collection includes several thousand exhibits: books, items of noble life, 19th-century engravings, and illustrations for Gogol's works.

Active scientific activities are conducted at the institution. Since 2000, the annual "Gogol Readings" have been held here, an international conference for researchers of the writer's work. A collection of articles is published based on the results.

Gogol's House also has an extensive library and a theatrical lounge where cultural events take place; an Italian café operates here. The reading room and subscription area feature books on philosophy, literary studies, psychology, art, religious and artistic literature. Special attention is paid to publications of Gogol's works and materials about his life. In the music department, electronic pianos can be used to select vocal-instrumental material.

Concerts, performances, musical-poetic evenings, lectures, and seminars are held in the theatrical lounge.

In another building of the estate complex, in the service wing at Nikitsky Boulevard, 7, the art space "New Wing" and an exhibition hall operate, showcasing artistic works and projects exploring the interaction of Gogol's heritage with contemporary cultural processes.
