On one of the central streets of Kovrov, a city of military glory, stands a small blue wooden house built in the late 19th century. Since 1924, this was the residence of Vasily Alekseevich Degtyarev, a native of Tula and an outstanding designer of automatic firearms. He was a major general of the engineering and artillery service, a doctor of technical sciences, a Hero of Socialist Labor, and a four-time laureate of the State Prize.

On January 6, 1978, a museum opened in this house.

The exhibition, located in two former living rooms, is dedicated to the design and labor activities of V. A. Degtyarev, as well as to the founder of the domestic school of automatic weapons V. G. Fedorov and other creators of first-class weapons that equipped various branches of the military.

The rest of the house is allocated for a memorial complex.

Here, the living room, home office, and a small workshop have been restored. The owner's cherished and familiar belongings are in their places, photographs and portraits of loved ones hang on the walls, and books and magazines lie on the table.
