At the intersection of Oktyabrskaya and Valovaya streets, at the very edge of Glebuchy Ravine, stands the House. In the last century, there was a similar wooden house with a stone two-story annex, a wing, an attic with a view of Sokolovaya Mountain, and an apple orchard. It was here that Pavel Varfolomeevich Kuznetsov was born in 1878.

This house was where he spent his childhood and youth. His father was engaged in creating and restoring icons, using canvases, wooden boards, oil, and paints. His mother raised three sons, instilling in them a love for music, painting, and crafts. Grandfather Illarion, with whom the boys spent spring, summer, and autumn in the gardens behind Sokolovaya Mountain, instilled in them a love for nature.

Pavel showed an early ability to perceive beauty. "My soul was filled with delight and joy, I wanted to somehow convey this state to other people," he recalled. Pavel began to draw, observing his father's work in the workshop. He absorbed the smell of oil and wood, gaining his first skills. By the age of 13, it became clear that Pavel would become an artist. This was facilitated by the support of his parents, the presence of an art museum in the city, friendship with Viktor Borisov-Musatov, training at the drawing school with Vasily Konovalov and Hector Barakki, and, of course, his native places.

"A shady, cobblestoned street. A large overgrown ravine. Sokolovaya Mountain, the highest in the vicinity of Saratov. Here, artists come with easels to capture the flow of the great river. The slopes, 'Berenedeevo kingdom', small houses of craftsmen, fruit orchards, the Volga and the steppe left bank, the Cathedral and the bell factory. And in the mornings, the bells ring."

In September 1897, Pavel Kuznetsov entered the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture, leaving his home. He rarely visited here, but letters came from all over the world, from Moscow, Paris, Crimea, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. His parents and younger brother Viktor lived in the house until the end of their days.

The idea of creating a memorial House for the artist arose after his death in 1968. Official permission came 20 years later. Reconstruction began in 1988 and continued until 1996, when work stopped due to lack of funding, and the House began to deteriorate.

In 1998, the year of the artist's 120th anniversary, the cultural community and employees of the Radishchev Museum drew attention to the condition of the House. Actions and exhibitions were organized, and television reports and radio broadcasts took place. An off-site meeting of the Government of the Saratov Region was held, and restoration work began.

In 2001, the House opened as a museum. It has several exhibition zones: rooms, an attic, and a garden. The interior of the late 19th and early 20th centuries has been partially recreated. Antique mirrors, cabinets, chests, a piano, an icon case, and Pavel Kuznetsov's easel are present. The apple orchard grows, creating shade in the gazebo. Flowers bloom from May to September, and the fence is entwined with grapes.

Unique exhibitions, events, and festivals take place in the house. Guests and viewers gather here, and work is done with young artists. The branch has become an unofficial center of contemporary art in the city. Notable exhibitions include "Artists of Saratov, to Pavel Kuznetsov", Christmas exhibitions, "fence" exhibitions, and the virtual project "Pavel Kuznetsov, a step through the wall". Since 2001, art expeditions and the project "Museum Valley" have been conducted to study the surroundings of Glebuchy Ravine and the Taibalyk River. Excursions to the places of Pavel Kuznetsov are organized. Exhibitions introducing the artist's heritage are held at the branch.

The Radishchev Museum holds the largest collection of works by Pavel Kuznetsov and his wife, artist Elena Bebutova. It may become a permanent exhibition in the gallery named after Pavel Kuznetsov in the building of his father's former workshops in the future.

Thus, the House of Pavel Kuznetsov is not just a building, but a whole world filled with artistic life.

The entire life of the House is imbued with Kuznetsov's zest for life, a striving for the new, a love for life, nature, art, and simple things.
