The museum, located in the house of the Podsozov merchants, was opened in 1982. The exhibition "Gorky in Arzamas" tells about Maxim Gorky's stay in exile in 1902 under police supervision. The memorial museum includes three rooms: Gorky's study, E. P. Peshkova's room, and the dining room. Here you can see the writer's personal belongings, books with his autographs, furniture made by Gorky's neighbor T. Gankov, an ashtray in the shape of a shoe, and other items. In the study, Gorky worked on the plays "The Dacha Residents," "The Man," and "At the Bottom." Tour guides talk about the period of exile and the people who visited Gorky in Arzamas, including writers Andreyev, Chirikov, Skitalets, as well as artists and directors.
