The G.V. Chicherin House Museum was established in Tambov by the decision of the executive committee of the Tambov Regional Council of People's Deputies with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR and operates as a branch of the Tambov Regional Local History Museum. It opened its doors on December 12, 1987, and is located in the former noble house of the city estate, where the retired Russian diplomat V.N. Chicherin, the father of G.V. Chicherin, lived. The building is situated at the corner of Sovetskaya and Kronstadt streets.

This one-story house with a mezzanine is designed in a style that imitates stone architecture of the first half of the 19th century. Here, from 1877 to 1886, the childhood of Georgy Vasilyevich Chicherin, a renowned diplomat, People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs of the RSFSR and USSR, as well as a historian and musicologist, took place. In this house, in the 1870s and 1880s, his uncle, the outstanding scholar and public figure Boris Nikolayevich Chicherin, often visited. Two memorial plaques are installed on the facade of the building, commemorating these events.

The G.V. Chicherin House Museum serves as a research and cultural-educational institution. Its collections hold more than 3,500 items, of which over 500 are memorial. Among the most valuable exhibits are furniture and books from G.V. Chicherin's library in the People's Commissariat for Foreign Affairs, personal belongings of the diplomat L.M. Karakhan, the mother of G.V. Chicherin, Z.E. Meyendorff, as well as the archive and personal items of composer S.N. Chicherina and literary scholar A.V. Chicherin.

The museum's exhibition is characterized by a strict scientific approach and subtly conveys the atmosphere of the Chicherin home. It harmoniously fits into the memorial mansion and introduces visitors to the life and activities of G.V. Chicherin through authentic photographs, letters, and documents. The recreated interiors help to understand the characters of the people who lived here. The mezzanine houses the memorial children's rooms of Georgy, Nikolai, and Sofia.

Since 1994, the museum has hosted the exhibition "The Life and Activities of B.N. Chicherin." Currently, scientific research covers all known representatives of the Chicherin family. The results of the research are reflected in the exhibition and published in scientific publications.

The museum's educational work is diverse. In its nine halls, there are a musical-literary salon, a historical-art gallery, and a home theater. In addition to traditional tours, thematic tours are conducted, aimed at different categories of visitors, including children and school students.

Every year, the museum is visited by more than 10,000 people.
