One of the most famous attractions in Perm is the Meshkov House, which has housed the local regional museum since 2007. The history of this beautiful building dates back to 1820 when it was built in the style of late Russian classicism. The project was developed by the famous architect Ivan Ivanovich Svyazev, a native of Perm, who achieved significant success in his career.

Unfortunately, the original building was almost completely destroyed by fire and remained abandoned for forty years. The house was revived in 1887 thanks to the restoration funded by merchant Meshkov and designed by Alexander Bonaventurovich Turchevich, who was a resident of Perm and a Kyiv nobleman of Polish descent. Turchevich was an extraordinary person, combining the talents of an actor and an architect.

The new building was constructed with elements of Art Nouveau and adorned with a stone rotunda, which was destroyed during the Soviet years. The facade of the Meshkov House faces the Kama River and is one of the most prominent in the city. Every detail of the exterior and interior decoration of the house is carefully thought out. This building is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in Perm.

After the construction was completed, the house was rented out to the Ural Railway for some time, and later it hosted an exhibition by the artist Denisov-Ural. With the advent of Soviet power, the building was nationalized and underwent significant changes. Only in recent times has it been restored and transferred to the regional museum.

The Perm Regional Museum was founded by Dr. Pavel Nikolayevich Serebrennikov in the late 19th century. This renowned physician became the first director of the Perm Scientific and Industrial Museum, as it was then called. Over the years, the museum changed locations several times and experienced a crisis during the Soviet era. Only in 2007, under its modern name, did the museum find a permanent home within the walls of the Meshkov House. Its rich exhibition tells the history of the region from ancient times to the present day.
