Opposite the Church of the Holy Trinity in Vishnyaki lies a vast estate owned by the founder of the Trinity Church, first guild merchant and hereditary honorary citizen, Moscow city head in 1846 and 1849, Semyon Longinovich Lepyoshkin. The Lepyoshkin family was engaged in the trade of paper yarn and calico, owning five factories. In the 1820s, Semyon Longinovich founded the Voznesenskaya Manufactory near the village of Muromtsevo in the Dmitrov district of Moscow province, which later became the 'Partnership of the Voznesenskaya Manufactory S. Lepyoshkin and Sons.' His grandson, Semyon Vasilyevich, was one of the founders and the director of the Moscow Partnership of Mechanical Products. In the early 20th century, he headed the Varvarinskoye Joint-Stock Company of Homeowners, was a member of the Moscow City Duma, and an honorary member of the Society for Helping Needy Students of Moscow University. The Lepyoshkins were actively involved in charity.

The main house of the Lepyoshkin estate was built in the late 18th century. This is building No. 48 on Pyatnitskaya Street, which now houses the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The mansion is adorned with a six-column portico and rich stucco decor. Interiors of several ceremonial rooms from the 19th century have been preserved, as well as the overall layout of the estate, outbuildings, and the fence with gates.

In the 1920s, this building housed the Biological Institute named after K. A. Timiryazev of the Communist Academy. A commemorative plaque on the wall of the building reminds us that from 1923 to 1929, academician Sergey Gavrilovich Navashin, the founder and first director of the institute, worked here.

Previously, in 1919, it was home to the '9th Soviet Command Courses of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army,' where the famous writer Arkady Gaidar studied. This fact is reflected in his autobiographical story 'In Days of Defeats and Victories,' as well as in his official biography. However, he spent only one day at the courses before departing from Moscow to Kyiv on the orders of the command.
