The house on Kirova Street, 48, known as Kuptsov House, was built in the 1880s according to most researchers. In 1825 and 1826, the building was reconstructed by provincial architect Nikolai Fyodorovich Sokolov for merchant Ivan Kharitonovich Bilibin (Men'shoy). The architect added a mezzanine, a colonnade, and decorated the facade with griffins and medallions. Over different periods, the house belonged to merchants Alferov, Volostny, Meshkov, and Tovarkovsky.

In 1905, the upper floor was rented by entrepreneur Kuptsov, who opened a restaurant and hotel called "Moscow". In 1918, the building was nationalized and housed the "Sovgorsluzhashchikh" club and the trade workers' club. In 1925, an aeronautics club was established here, which five years later became known as the "Aero Club". Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky performed here multiple times. Among the audience were future Air Force Marshal Georgy Vasilyevich Zimin and future twice Hero of the Soviet Union Alexander Terentyevich Karpov.

The building, which was not damaged during the war, again became home to members of DOSAAF, while trade workers returned to their club. In the 1960s, Kaluga residents brought their children here for New Year trees, in the 1970s local VIA bands rehearsed here, and a store of "Gorpromtorg" operated on the first floor. In the early 1970s, a record store of the "Melodiya" company opened in its place, which moved in 1989. In 1990, the building was transferred to a cultural and educational institution. Until February 2014, a prestigious restaurant called "Usadba" operated here. Currently, the building has been handed over to the Puppet Theater.
