In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, this house belonged to merchants Vasily and Peter Popov. The first floor of the building housed shops selling soap, candles, tea, coffee, sugar, kerosene, and other goods. The second floor was occupied by the owners and a 'cooking room.' In 1863, the house passed to Viktor Ivanovich Kapanov and was used in a similar manner. From 1923 to 1977, the house served as a residential space, after which it was converted into an office and the basement was filled in. In 2016, the building was renovated and returned to its original appearance.
