The building is adorned with Ionic pilasters around the perimeter, lion masks, and an elegant balcony in the center of the bel étage. It belongs to the era of mature classicism. According to I.E. Grabar, the architect could have been N.N. Legran.

In the late 19th century, the house belonged to the Moscow merchant Ilya Mikhailovich Zaitsev, who was known as the owner of the "Sheremetev Courtyard" hotel in Kitai-Gorod.

Later, the building was acquired by the timber and wood merchant Lev Aronovich Gurevich. The house remained in the Gurevich family until the October Revolution.

Until 1967, the building was divided into communal apartments, deteriorated, and needed repairs. In 1967, a museum of the history of the Dzerzhinsky district opened here.

In the 1980s, during restoration, the lion masks and rosettes lost during the Soviet period were restored.

Currently, the building houses the "Garden Ring" museum, whose exhibition is dedicated to the history of the Meshchansky district of Moscow.
