In the mid-18th century, the building was located on the territory of the Semyonovsky Monastery. In 1793, its address was listed as the parish of the Nine Martyrs on Bolshaya Street by the Zemlyanoy Val, XII part of Moscow, 1st quarter, No. 1. The owner was Prosecutor Anna Alexeyevna Volynskaya (Griboedova). After her death, the house passed to her nephew Alexey Fyodorovich Griboedov, and then to his sister Nastasia Fyodorovna, the mother of Alexander Sergeyevich Griboedov. Later, the family of S. I. and A. F. Griboedov lived here.

The house has been rebuilt multiple times and has suffered from fires, with its owners changing over the years. A bas-relief depicting the writer Alexander Sergeyevich Griboedov is installed on the wall of the building. The house where Griboedov spent his childhood was severely damaged in the fire of 1812 and was rebuilt, but the playwright's mother continued to live in it until 1834. In 1818, Griboedov wrote: 'My homeland, kinship, and my home in Moscow.'

In the 1970s, attempts were made to restore the building, but it was severely damaged by fire, and the upper floor burned down. Subsequently, it was finished with stone.
