A monument of Russian architecture, having lived a rich and significant life, still stands, beautifying the city with its majesty.

Houses and cities are created by skilled and talented people, one of whom was Ivan Karpovich Nazarov. He was born on October 19, 1830, graduated from the Mikhailov Artillery School in St. Petersburg, and began his service in the Black Sea Cossack Army. For his service, he was awarded and promoted in ranks. Wealth came to him from his father's inheritance.

For a long time, the plot remained empty, and its owner rented it out to wandering artists who held performances with tricks, clowns, acrobats, and trained animals for the entertainment of the residents of Yekaterinodar. Nazarov decided to build a two-story apartment building on this site.

Contemporaries believe that the building's design was developed by the architect of the Kuban region V.A. Filippov, who also oversaw the construction. The patterned brickwork, reminiscent of "stone lace," columns, two symmetrical balconies between three risalits, rich decoration of cornices and attics, and two quadrangular towers at the corners of the facade all gave the building elegance and splendor.

While construction was underway in 1886-1887, the owner passed away, not waiting for its completion. Thus, another remarkable building emerged, preserved to this day.

After the revolution, the building housed the House of Sanitary Enlightenment, and alongside it, a museum for the protection of public health. In 1922, there was an orphanage, nursing courses operated, and the "Medsantrud" club was located here.

After the Great Patriotic War, the "Sanprosvet" was joined by the "Knowledge" society and other public organizations. Today, in the hall of the former Military and First Public Assembly, specialists give lectures on environmental protection and city scientific conferences are held. Thus, General I.K. Nazarov's building continues to live and serve the people.
