John Howard's House

Фото 1
John Howard's House (1726-1790), a well-known prison reformer, has an interesting history. In 1781 and 1789-90, he visited Russia, where he actively promoted ideas for improving conditions in prisons, hospitals, and military garrisons. Howard passed away in Kherson, where he was buried. In the garden of his house in Cardington, located in the Bedford district of Bedfordshire, England, there is a lead statue of a gamekeeper on skates. It is believed that this statue was gifted to Howard after his first visit to Russia.
