The Bishop's House

Фото 1
The Sverdlovsk Regional Tuberculosis Dispensary is located on Chapayev Street. It is hard to imagine that a century ago everything here looked different.

Once, this was the house of the bishop of the Yekaterinburg diocese, and Chapayev Street was called Archiereiskaya.

Before being acquired by the local consistory, the house belonged to the Mining Chief. Later, the Grad-Yekaterinburg Cross Bishop's Church was added to it, known as the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "Relieve My Sorrows" (its domes are visible in the upper photo).

In the 1920s, the church was closed and partially dismantled. The house became a police club, and then it housed the NKVD police school. The church and the small bell tower were demolished, the house was raised by two floors, the old decor was removed, and it was plastered. Now, only the rhythm of the window openings reminds of the past. Since the 1960s, the building has housed the tuberculosis dispensary.

The small wing of the Balandin estate on the left testifies that this is still the same place.
