The founder of the famous leather dynasty in the 19th century, Alexei Fyodorovich Bakhrushin, walked to Moscow from Zaraysk in the 1830s. He settled with his wife and eldest son at the Zaraysk courtyard in Taganka. A few years later, the Bakhrushins acquired a large plot on Kozhevnicheskaya Street and opened a leather factory there. In 1856, they bought the neighboring house from merchant Ardalion Kotelnikov. There was a legend in the Bakhrushin family that a country hunting castle of Potemkin once stood on the site of their house, from which two-arsen walls and a gate remained. To the right of the house was a large garden with a pond and an island connected by a bridge. Now, on this site is the Museum of the Russian Railway with the steam locomotive that brought Lenin's body to Moscow. Part of the garden was allocated for the leather factory.

In this house lived the family of Alexander Alexeevich Bakhrushin. According to his grandson's memories, the house was large and somewhat inconvenient. In the center was a two-light hall with choir lofts for the orchestra, where family celebrations were held on report days, birthdays, Christmas, and Easter. His children were born and grew up here: the founder of the Theater Museum Alexei Alexandrovich, philanthropist Vladimir Alexandrovich, and collector Sergey Alexandrovich.

On the second floor lived the family of Alexander Alexeevich and his eldest son Vladimir, while the first floor was allocated to Vladimir's children. In the old wing, the office of the leather factory was located, and the factory employees lived there.

After the grandfather's death, the house was owned by Sergey Vladimirovich Bakhrushin, a professor at Moscow University and a well-known scholar. After the revolution, the Bakhrushins were evicted from the house, and the leather factory was transformed into a hardware factory. The house was handed over to the factory.

In the 2010s, a business center "Vivaldi Plaza" was built on the site of the factory, and the house was shortened by three left windows and rebuilt beyond recognition, preserving only the walls.
