One of the historical buildings of Rostov-on-Don, this three-story income house of Solomon Zhitomirsky was built in the late 19th century. The name of the first owner, when the house was still two stories, has not survived to this day. The building is known by the name of the second owner, Solomon Zhitomirsky, who became its owner in the early 20th century. Zhitomirsky was a successful pharmacist with a higher education.

The house was built in a mixed style characteristic of that time. In the 1910s, Solomon Zhitomirsky added a third floor and slightly changed the exterior appearance of the building. On the first floor, there was a pharmacy managed by Zhitomirsky himself, who worked there personally. He also headed the Don Pharmaceutical Society, which was responsible for overseeing and improving pharmacy practices in Rostov. During the war years, when medications were in short supply, the society's activities were particularly important.

With the arrival of Soviet power, all pharmacies, including Zhitomirsky's property, were nationalized. In the following decades, the building turned into communal housing. Despite significant dilapidation, it has survived, and its walls and foundation remain in excellent condition. Although the exterior of the house is quite deplorable, especially after a fire, and for some time homeless people lived here, there is hope for its restoration. The house was built very sturdily, and its walls and foundation can last many more years.
