Nikonov's Income House on Dostoevsky Street

Фото 1
Nikolai Nikitich Nikonov, a renowned architect and builder of St. Petersburg, was also the owner of several income houses. One such building is located at 38 Dostoevsky Street, built in 1894 in the 'Russian style.' This is confirmed by the decorative elements, primarily made of plaster, which resemble Russian architecture of the 17th century. The colorful tiles used in the decoration enhance this impression. Nikonov's houses in the Russian style are often associated with terems, Palekh and Khokhloma painting, bright Dymkovo toys, and Russian folk tales, where royal palaces always look magnificent.

The ceramic decor of this income house by Nikonov possesses significant artistic value and is a monument to decorative and applied arts and artistic industry of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
