The tall income house in the modern style on the even side of Pyatnitskaya Street was built according to the design of architect A.M. Kalmykov for merchant N.G. Grigoriev in the late 19th century. Before the revolution, the first floor housed a grocery store owned by the famous "sausage king" Nikolai Grigoryevich Grigoriev, a 2nd guild merchant and hereditary honorary citizen. The building is distinguished by two balconies on the sides, preserved carpentry of the high window above the entrance, a bas-relief with a female head in the modern style, as well as rich stucco floral ornamentation on the facade. The decor above the third floor is particularly interesting: from above, either wolves or bears look down, and on the penultimate floor, a real owl is hidden.

Nikolai Grigoryevich Grigoriev, the founder of one of the largest sausage factories in Russia, was born in 1845 in the village of Ratmanovo near Uglich to a serf peasant family. In 1861, he came to Moscow and began selling pies. Later, having saved enough money, he opened a small sausage establishment in Okhotny Ryad. In 1876, Grigoriev became a merchant, and two years later he purchased a house in Kadashovskoye Lane, where a small sausage factory was located. He renovated it and in 1897 opened a steam sausage factory, significantly increasing production. At the same time, he bought houses for workers' dormitories. By 1911, the factory "Trading House 'N.G. Grigoriev and Sons'" employed about 100 staff and 200 workers. To sell its products, the company had six large stores in Moscow, and its products were exported to Europe. The factory was a "Supplier to His Imperial Majesty's Court" and received gold medals at exhibitions in Paris and London.

In addition to sausages, the flagship store on Pyatnitskaya Street sold delicacies: smoked and boiled ham, stuffed geese, ducks, turkeys, and other products. Nearby was the wine shop of L.I. Arabedzhi, which was very convenient for customers.

On the upper floors of the house were furnished rooms of "Pyatnitskoye Podvorye," which were later converted into apartments. This house was where the famous film director Mikhail Ilyich Romm spent his childhood and youth. If you peek into the arch on the southern side of the house, you can see one of the most interesting monuments of Pyatnitskaya Street, the chambers of the 18th century fabric manufacturer I.G. Zhuravlev.
