One of the architectural monuments of pre-revolutionary Rostov-on-Don is the building of the Mavrokordato income house, a representative of a famous Greek family that settled in the southern part of Russia. Later, the Mavrokordato family split into two branches: one remained in Rostov-on-Don and St. Petersburg, while the other moved to Odessa, where this surname became most well-known.

The Rostov Mavrokordato income house was built in the early last century and is distinguished by its stunning blue-green hue, which invariably attracts the attention of passersby. The facade of the building is adorned with stylized birds and bas-reliefs featuring floral motifs, among which is an image of a snake, symbolizing the snake king Polos and guarding the 'northern treasures.'

The house was entirely intended for rental: the first floor housed shops and the Rostov branch of the Petersburg accounting and loan bank, the second floor was occupied by offices, and the third floor was reserved for residential apartments for rent. Currently, shops continue to operate on the first floor, while people live on the other two floors.
