Next to the Kislovodsk railway station is "Shalyapin's Dacha," which never belonged to the famous artist. Fyodor Shalyapin rented it for his family from July to September 1917, but the house still became known as "Shalyapin's."

The chief architect of Kislovodsk, Emmanuel Khojaev, designed this dacha for local merchant Ushakov in 1903. The merchant intended to gift the house to his wife, and in the following years, it was known as "Madame Ushakova's Boarding House." The dacha was popular among the musical elite: in 1911, it was rented by the young composer Sergei Prokofiev, and in 1917, another composer, Sergei Rachmaninoff, visited here.

In 1914, the house changed owners, becoming the property of Cossack General Georgy Abrezov. It was from him that Fyodor Shalyapin rented the house in the summer of 1917, coming for a vacation with his wife Maria Petzold and daughters Marina and Marfa.
