Mesmacher's Dacha

Фото 1
Architect Maximilian Mesmacher built this dacha in the 1870s for his brother Georg, a renowned lawyer in St. Petersburg. By that time, Mesmacher already had significant experience in constructing beautiful dachas in the areas of Shuvalovo, Pargolovo, and Ozerki, which were gradually becoming popular dacha suburbs of the capital. For his brother, the architect spared no architectural elements: turrets, balconies, elegant attic windows, and ornate cornices. The house became an astonishing blend of Art Nouveau, pseudo-Gothic, and Russian terema. The owner's initials, G.M., are placed on the northeast tower.

A separate mystery is represented by the numbers 1902 under these initials. Some sources even claim that the dacha was built in 1902. However, this is impossible, as both brothers left Russia in 1897. The origin of these numbers on the tower and their significance remain unexplained to this day.
