The building was constructed in the early 20th century according to the design of city architect N.N. Karlinsky, who also developed the projects for the city library, a girls' gymnasium, and many other structures. Karlinsky's career ended after he killed the Turkish consul in Novorossiysk.

Prince Boris Borisovich Golitsyn was a Russian physicist and one of the founders of seismology. He also worked in geophysics and invented the first electromagnetic seismograph.

After the revolution, the building was nationalized. Before World War II, it housed a children's shelter, and after the war, people lived there. Around the 1970s, the building was vacated and remained in neglect for a long time. Currently, the ruins have been brought into relative order and are located on the territory of a restricted area of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
