Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Florishchi

Фото 1
The exact time of the church's founding in Florishchi is unknown. In 1799, the local priest reported that a wooden church in honor of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, existing in his parish, was built by the parishioners in 1749. However, it is unclear whether it was the first or if there were other churches here before. In 1799, a stone church was laid on the site of the dilapidated wooden temple, which was completed in 1819 and has remained unchanged on the outside. The church was built with donations from the Katynsky family, some members of which are buried nearby. The church has three altars: the main altar, the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and in the chapels, Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker and Archangel Michael. The iconostasis of the main church was acquired with icons from the abolished Pereslavl Goritsky Monastery, but it was later remodeled, and the icons in the lower tier were repainted. The fence with gates and towers was built in the 19th century. Since 1881, a zemstvo folk school operated in Florishchi. In 1939, the church was closed but not destroyed, even though it housed a military unit during the Great Patriotic War. In 1946, the church was reopened and is one of the few in the Kolchuginsky district that has preserved its interior decoration.
