Historical documents found by researchers suggest that the settlement of Terenga was founded in 1682. The name originated from the fusion of two Turkic words: "teren" (deep) and "gul" (lake, river, ravine). It is known that in the mid-18th century, the peasants of the village of Terenga belonged to Prince Alexander Petrovich Dolgorukov, the father of Princess Natalia Alexandrovna Golitsyna. In 1768, a cloth factory was built in Terenga, likely at the initiative of the Dolgorukov and Golitsyn princes, who gradually expanded their holdings. In 1787, Terenga was granted the status of a village due to the construction of a church funded by local landowners. After that, the village was referred to as Vvedenskoye in honor of the Vvedenskaya church, but due to the presence of several villages with that name in the Simbirsk district, it was renamed Terenga again.

On May 10, 1832, Alexander Nikiforovich Skrebitsky officially took possession of the Terengul estate. His economic activities were a heavy burden for the peasants, and he engaged in construction throughout his life, using bricks made by local craftsmen. In 1850, Skrebitsky built the Alexander Nevsky church in Terenga with a high brick fence.

A hundred years later, this church was dismantled. The destruction of the first Vvedenskaya church, closed in the mid-1930s, was completed in the 1980s. Now, memorial crosses have been erected in their place.

Bricks from the Alexander Nevsky church were used to build the "Iskra" cinema across the road, which, after 65 years, the residents decided to convert into a church. Their initiative was supported by the local administration. In 2003, the site for the shrine was blessed by the Dean of the district. On August 2, 2011, a chapel was opened in the former cinema, where the first service took place. On December 6, the first Divine Liturgy was held in the revived church. The church was consecrated in the name of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, just like the first church in Terenga. The building of the former cinema is gradually taking on the appearance of a church: work on the dome installation has been completed, finishing of the main volume of the church is underway, and a temporary bell tower has been set up.

During the reconstruction, forged doors from the destroyed Alexander Nevsky church and dozens of bricks from the ancient masonry were discovered under the concrete in the cinema's basement. The head of the Metropolis recommended that the church's rector, Father Alexander, restore the doors and install them in the church as a relic symbolizing special heavenly protection for the spiritual community.
