The village of Ilyinsk, located by the Sukhom River, is 17 versts from the district town and 137 versts from the provincial capital. In 1587, Tsar Fyodor Ioannovich granted this village to the Pereslavl Fyodorovsky Monastery. In 17th-century documents, it is mentioned as Tyushino or Kisma. According to the scribal books of 1628 and 1629, there was a church of the Holy Prophet Elijah in Ilyinsk. In the mid-17th century, a new church was built in its place in honor of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos, which was later moved to another location. According to the scribal books of 1653, there were the priest's house, the deacon's house, and the monastery yard by this church. Documents from the Patriarchal Treasury indicate that in Ilyinsk, besides the Entry Church, there was another one in the name of the Holy Prophet Elijah. How long it existed is unknown, but in the 1799 report, only the wooden church in honor of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos is mentioned.

In 1808, with the funds of landowner Pyotr Alexeyevich Yartsev, a stone temple was built to replace the wooden church. This temple has two altars: in the cold one, in honor of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos, and in the warm altar, in the name of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. The church is well supplied with utensils, vestments, holy icons, and liturgical books. All church documents are kept in order: there are copies of the metric books since 1803 and confession records since 1828.
