In 1919-1920, after the liturgy at the Assumption Cathedral in Vladimir, sermons by clergy from the Vladimir diocese, including Hieromonk Seraphim Yakubovich, became popular. Critical articles about him began to appear in the local press. The provincial head of the justice department, G.K. Turkin, summoned Hieromonk Seraphim for a debate. Uncertain of a favorable outcome for the Bolsheviks, the atheistic authorities decided to arrest Father Seraphim and, under the pretext of an attempted escape, execute him. Hieromonk Seraphim managed to hide and lived underground for the next 13 years. In 1931, a group of Diveyevo nuns gathered around him in the village of Edemskoye, regularly conducting services according to monastic rules. In 1933, 45 people were arrested and convicted of forming counter-revolutionary church-monarchist groups and recruiting women into the monastery. Hieromonk Seraphim was sentenced to ten years in prison in 1934, and in 1938 he was executed in the Kemerovo region.
