The Ascension Church is a tall two-tiered square structure topped with five domes. A large apse adjoins it from the east, a warm chapel is located on the north side, and a porch is on the east. The windows are adorned with carved frames: in the first tier, they have simple columns, while in the second, they feature ornate ones. Ornate columns are also used in the decoration of the high drums. An octagonal pillar of the tent-shaped bell tower is set on a low square base, to which a wooden staircase is attached. Its walls are almost devoid of decoration, making it unique among Suzdal's tent-shaped bell towers. The modest decoration of the upper part consists of carved frames around the arched openings and the surrounds above the sound windows.

In the first half of the 18th century, a low fence was built around the monastery, adorned with decorative towers styled like fortifications. At that time, the Holy Gates with a two-tiered tower appeared, reminiscent of the gates of the Trinity Monastery, which now form part of the Rizopolozhensky Monastery ensemble. This similarity is not accidental, as the fence and towers of the Alexander Monastery were built under the guidance of Ivan Gryaznov, who participated in the construction of the Trinity and Rizopolozhensky Monasteries in the late 17th century.

In 2006, the monastery was renewed as a men's monastery of the Vladimir-Suzdal Diocese.
