Ascension Church in Shiryayevo

The Nikolayevskaya church in the village of Shiryayevo, built of stone along with a bell tower, was erected in 1828 with funds from the parishioners. Next to it stands the wooden Ascension church without a bell tower, built in 1760 with funds from Mikhail Alexandrovich Kalzakov. In 1894-1895, it was reconstructed with donations from benefactors and the help of parishioners. The fence around the church is made of stone, while the cemetery, located 223 fathoms from the church, is surrounded by a wooden fence. The Nikolayevsky temple has one altar dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. The Ascension temple has three altars: the Ascension of the Lord, the Dormition of the Mother of God, and the holy martyrs Flora and Lavra. The local shrine is the icon of Saint Nicholas. The village is located 80 versts from Kostroma and 25 versts from Kineshma. In April 1680, the church of Nicholas the Wonderworker in the Kuyeckaya volost in the village of Shiryayevo was located in the estate of Ivan Ivanovich Shetnev and Fedosya Vasilyev son Polozov. The priest Gavriil lived on the church land, and in the village, there was a landowner's yard of Ivan Ivanovich Shetnev, who came there temporarily, while his appointed man Mirka Sazontov lived there permanently.
