The Ascension Church, located in the Old Kolomna area at the intersection of Komsomolskaya and Krasnogvardeyskaya streets, is also known as the Ascension Church in Kuznechnaya Sloboda. It was built along with the bell tower between 1792 and 1799 with funds from parishioners. The church's design was likely developed by M. F. Kazakov or his students. In 1808 and 1815, a refectory was added, connecting the church with the bell tower. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the church was redecorated, and in 1907, a chapel was built nearby. Services ceased in the 1930s but were resumed in 1996. The Ascension Church is a significant monument of classicism in Kolomna. The main volume of the church is a two-light domed rotunda with lowered spaces for the altar and vestibule adjoining it. The calm surface of the rotunda is enlivened by small two-column Tuscan porticos at the side doors and broken pediments above the windows, interpreting forms of Moscow Baroque. The treatment of other parts of the building is more expressive and ornate, with extensive use of ribbon rustication. The composition of the church, as well as the design of its gates and fence, is characterized by elegance, and the plastic decor is of great delicacy. In style, the Ascension Church is close to Moscow churches built by M. F. Kazakov, such as the Church of Cosmas and Damian on Maroseyka and the Church of the Ascension on Gorokhovaya Square.
