The Ascension Church, built in stone and featuring three altars, is designed in the majestic Byzantine central-dome style. Its project was developed by industrial architect E.H.-G. Sartorius in 1842, and the project was approved on March 16, 1843, by the Perm Civil Governor. The beginning of construction is evidenced by an iron plate under the altar of the Ilyinsky altar, which states that the church was laid on June 22, 1848, by Archbishop Arkady of Perm and Verkhoturye during the reign of Emperor Nicholas Pavlovich.
Funds for the construction came from the residents of the Kasli factory, who contributed one ruble from their salaries each month. Initially, the Ilyinsky altar was completed and consecrated in 1852. The document states that the consecration took place on June 2 with the blessing of Archbishop Neophyte of Perm and Verkhoturye. The archpriest Alexey Sladchinsky and representatives of the local nobility were present.
The Ascension and Charalampius altars were completed by 1855. An iron plate under the altar of the Ascension Church indicates that the altar was consecrated on July 1, 1855, by Archbishop Neophyte during the reign of Alexander II. This event involved Archpriest Mikhail Biryukov and other clergy, as well as builders Mikhail Dunaev, Andrey Trutnev, and Timofey Svistunov.
In March 1930, all churches in Kasli were closed, and their buildings were used as clubs, workshops, and clinics. The Ascension Church became a club and a grain storage. In 1943, the church was returned to the believers and consecrated again, and since then it has been functioning without interruption.
In 1977, Moscow artists recreated the iconostasis of the main altar, and in 1989, new bells cast in Voronezh were installed in the bell tower. Since 1998, the restoration of the domes and bell tower began, and from 2000, the repair of the roof and walls.
On July 5, 2017, an important event took place in Kasli: Metropolitan Nikodim of Chelyabinsk and Miass consecrated the new dome and cross of the church. The ceremony was attended by the clergy of the Kasli-Snezhinsk district and the rector of the church. After the consecration, the golden dome with the cross was installed on the church.
Several months prior, it was decided to replace the central dome. The work lasted a year and included the construction of a structure with a diameter of 11 meters and a weight of 15 tons. The dome was covered with titanium nitride, giving it a golden color and strength. The entire city observed the process, and the work was carried out by the Chelyabinsk company 'Blagostroy'. Funds for the construction were collected from everyone, just like in the old days.
